Thought of the Month

What if today was part of something bigger?
Every small step contributes to your future success.

Theme: Small Steps, Bigger Journey

 When to use:

Form time · Start-of-day reflection · End-of-lesson reflection · Assembly follow-up

Step 1 — Read (1 minute)

Read the Thought of the Month aloud:

“What if today was part of something bigger? Every small step contributes to future success.”

Ask students:

“What is one small step you took recently that helped you get better at   something?”

Take 2–3 quick responses from the class.

Explain briefly:

Sometimes success doesn’t happen all at once — it happens through lots of small steps over time.

Step 2 — Connect (2 minutes)

Ask students to think of something they are currently learning or improving at.

It could be:

  • Maths

  • Reading

  • Sport

  • Music

  • Friendships

  • Confidence

Then ask:

“What is one small step you could take today that moves you forward?”

Examples you might offer:

  • Asking a question

  • Trying a harder problem

  • Practising something for five minutes

  • Helping a friend learn something

Step 3 — Anchor (2 minutes)

Ask students to complete the sentence:

“Today my small step will be…”

Students can:

  • Say it aloud

  • Write it down

  • Share with a partner

Invite 1–2 volunteers to share their small step.

Finish by reminding them:

Big progress is often built from many small steps taken consistently.

Inspiring Growth, One Mind at a Time

Programme Spotlight of the Month

LevelUp Learning (Transition)

One of the most important transitions in a young person’s education is the move from Year 6 to Year 7. For many pupils this brings excitement, but also uncertainty about new environments, expectations, friendships and academic challenges.

LevelUp Learning is a practical, movement-based workshop designed for Years 6 pupils preparing for secondary school, helping them approach this next step with confidence and a positive mindset. The session focuses on building the skills and attitudes that help students adapt, participate and thrive as they move into a new stage of learning.

Pupils explore:

• Positive self-talk and confidence
• Teamwork and communication
• Approaching challenges without fear of
 mistakes
• Understanding that growth comes through
 effort and practice

Sessions are built around activities, reflection, and simple mindset tools that support pupils in seeing transition not as something to fear, but as an opportunity to grow.

Schools often use this workshop as part of Year 6 transition preparation or Year 7 early-term support, helping students start the next stage of their education with confidence.

Free Resource of the Month:

This month’s highlighted resource is our “Power of Yet” classroom poster — a simple visual reminder that learning takes time and progress happens through effort and persistence.

The poster encourages pupils to reframe moments of difficulty by adding one powerful word: yet.

Perfect for classrooms, corridors, intervention spaces or form rooms where pupils need a quick reminder that growth takes practice.

You can download this poster, along with other free mindset visuals, from the MMT Resources page below.

Mind Science Moment

Did you know the human brain is estimated to have around 60,000 thoughts per day?

Many of these thoughts happen automatically — shaped by habits, emotions, and past experiences.

That’s why small shifts in how we think can make a big difference over time.

If students learn to pause and ask:

“What if today is part of something bigger?”

They begin to see each effort, challenge, and mistake as part of a longer journey of learning and growth.

Small thoughts can lead to small actions — and small actions, repeated over time, often lead to big outcomes.

New Resource: Your Mind, Your Mission

We’re excited to share that My Mindset Mission Journal (Primary Edition) is now available.

Designed for Years 4–6 pupils, the journal encourages reflection, confidence, and positive thinking through simple prompts, mindset challenges, and short activities that help pupils build resilience and self-belief.

Many schools are using the journal as part of form time, pastoral support, and transition preparation, helping pupils develop the habits and mindset skills that support learning both in and beyond the classroom.

If you’d like to explore the journal or see how schools are using it, you can learn more below.
