Breakthrough: The Mindset Mission

This workshop supports KS4 students experiencing barriers to progress in their learning and GCSE preparation.

These students may have the ability to achieve more but can be experiencing barriers such as low confidence, inconsistent motivation, fear of failure or difficulty responding to setbacks. Breakthrough provides a supportive space to explore these barriers and develop practical strategies for moving forward.

The workshop helps learners explore challenges affecting their engagement with learning, consider different approaches and identify support they may need.

Through interactive activities, relatable stories and practical learning strategies, students explore approaches to challenging work, responding to setbacks and using feedback. They consider what is within their control, when to seek help and how to choose manageable next steps.

Breakthrough: The Mindset Mission introduces practical tools that students can practise and review alongside their ongoing school support.

Growth Mindset Focus

KS4 focused

This programme explores three growth mindset themes through practical activities focused on learning strategies, responding to setbacks and seeking support.

1. Effective Effort + Strategy

“Purposeful effort, effective strategies, feedback and support can help students make progress.”

Students explore how abilities can develop through learning, practice and reflection. They consider not simply whether they are working hard, but whether their approach is effective, what feedback is available and what they could adjust next.

2. Learning from Mistakes and Setbacks

“Mistakes can offer useful information when we reflect, receive feedback and consider what to change.”

Mistakes and setbacks can provide useful information when students are supported to reflect, identify what happened and decide what to change next.

A mistake does not automatically teach someone something. It becomes useful through reflection, feedback and adjustment.

3. The Power of Yet

“You’re not there… yet.”

This classic Growth Mindset concept is made real for students. They explore how language can influence their response to challenge, while recognising that meaningful progress also requires effective strategies, practice, feedback and support.

These three principles are woven throughout the session, backed up with practical examples, exercises, and moments for reflection.
